Empowering Migrant Entrepreneurs in Ireland

The latest #GoingFar event focused on entrepreneurship for diverse migrants in Ireland, as part of Startup Week Dublin 2019. The event was held on Friday (October 25th) at Microsoft Ireland and aimed to provide migrant professionals technical knowledge and guidance to initiate and grow their own business.
The attendees first enjoyed a networking session and a mentorship session, in which they had the opportunity to pair with tech professionals and founders for 1:1 mentoring sessions. The goal was to combine early-stage or aspiring founders with experienced mentors based on their objectives, skills and areas of expertise, so everyone could make the most out of the mentorship.
Following the mentoring sessions, we made a big announcement: we launched our FREE #GoingFar Mentorship Programme (beta), to match migrant professionals with mentors with the right expertise to guide them through their career journey. Interested in joining us? Apply now!
Then, we had our first keynote speaker, Hardy Uwadiae (Barrister at Law), who went through the process of registering a company in Ireland, explained the different possible company structures in Ireland and the main regulations involved in the process.
Finally, we had the second workshop of the night with the financial accountant Titilope Oladiti, who spoke about tax obligations for small business owners in Ireland and guided the #GoingFar attendees through the practical steps of complying with tax obligations for sole traders.
We are beyond thankful for all the people who attended and collaborated with us: attendees, speakers, mentors, the Microsoft team, and the #GoingFar team.
#GoingFar was created to encourage migrant women and non-binary people to advance their careers in Ireland. By giving those opportunities to migrant professionals, we believe we can build a more diverse and supportive professional ecosystem for all.
